Some reasons you might want me to design and build your site with Dreamweaver, is because it is the most popular website design WYSIWYG editor in the World. This is important if you plan on changing web hosts, or changing webmasters. While not every web designer builds sites with Dreamweaver alone, any professional web builder will often at least know how to work with it. The other advantage is that the HTML code which Dreamweaver creates is readable on any browser platform and can reside on any server. The disadvantages are that if you're not a Dreamweaver designer with $100's invested in software, you will not be able to maintain the site yourself. Dreamweaver Sites are more expensive to create and maintain also. The skilled Dreamweaver Designer may not only have $100's or $1,000's in software, but they most likely also have hundreds of hours invested in practice and $1,000's in books, training courses, tutorials and more. The biggest advantage to a Dreamweaver Built Site, is that hosting a Dreamweaver site is simple and can be done at virtually any host. Dreamweaver includes an FTP feature, so I can upload the site anywhere (and keep the site synchronized). When I build Dreamweaver sites, I recommend hosting them through NewRamp, which is a PREMIUM web host in the Chicago area, featuring a massive data center which is fully protected against natural disasters like fire and flood. DREAMWEAVER PROS

The upside to a site built with Dreamweaver, is that you'll have a site that is more scalable, (meaning you can make it as big or feature-packed as you want), and more flexible, (meaning your design possibilities are endless), and also that a site built with Dreamweaver will generally be much quicker loading than a site built with almost any other WYSIWYG web builder, especially those which are web-based and have proprietary software and hosting like homestead and ezdjwebsites.

Another huge plus with a Dreamweaver site, is that the site is built with Industry compliant code, set forth by the W3C. This covers a lot of aspects, but the most prominent ones for you as a DJ, are that you will have a site that is not only forward and backward compatible with the majority of web browsers, (so it looks good no matter what your client has for a browser), but is also a site which you can move to virtually any hosting service.

The last real mentionable advantage I can think of for a site built with Dreamweaver, is that almost any professional web designer can work on it if you choose. With other proprietary WYSIWYG site builders only a web designer who knows or is willing to use that software can help you.

 

DREAMWEAVER CONS

The biggest con with Dreamweaver, for a DJ anyway, is that it's NOT the type of site you can access and work on yourself. It is highly advisable that you do not open it, look at it, work on it, etc. There is almost nothing you will be able to do to update a Dreamweaver site yourself, without goofing something up. If you want to use Dreamweaver Software, it'll set you back about $1000, so that should be a deterrent. It may cost you another several hundred dollars and perhaps several weeks of your life just to learn a couple of basic things, so I recommend just having professional web designers work on the site after it's built.

The next con about Dreamweaver sites, is that they are expensive... They are expensive to build, (I'm probably the cheapest Dreamweaver builder anywhere), they are also expensive to maintain, (because obviously you need a professional to work on it, so there's always some cost to it). The bright side to all that expensive web design and maintenance, is that hosting a Dreamweaver site is cheap. You can host a site built with dreamweaver anywhere (don't host outside the USA though - It's SEO Suicide). For example, I personally use NewRamp which has plans for under $100 yr.

The only other drawback to Dreamweaver would be that like ezdjwebsites, you'll have no way to to check traffic statistics. I would recommend using a 3rd party tracking system so that you could login to an account and see how many people have visited your site and how they got there. There are many available to choose from. One which I used (because it's an included feature of homestead sites), is RealTracker which does a nice job of giving you accurate data about your site. A product like Real Tracker Web Analytics will need to be added into the html code which is java based and something I can do for you, then all you need to do is login to your realtracker account and look at the stats.  © 2008 Todd Donald
